James Black stars as Michael Hailey, the security specialist of an elite bio-crisis team brought together to battle modern day plagues, in The Burning Zone, the new one-hour drama series blending science fact and science fiction.
Born in Lima, Ohio, Black attended the University of Akron where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. A college football player, he holds the NCAA record for the most rushes or carries in a game at 52 times. He also played professionally for the Cleveland Browns for two seasons before pursuing his true love of performing. Moving to Columbus, Ohio, he began singing, became a disc jockey, and signed with a talent agency which helped him land parts in local and regional television and radio commercials. After some midwest successes, he decided to move to Hollywood.
Two-and-a-half years later, Black had amassed a string of guest-starring roles on series such as The Sentinel and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The Burning Zone marks his first regular series role.
He has also been featured in the independent films Cappuccino, Ozone, Back to Front, Criminal Intent and Reverse Heaven.
Recent movies include Olympia, Godzilla and Out of Sight.
With his acting career well under way, Black has recently signed a music deal and will soon begin working on his first release.
